Welcome to Cuddles' Website
Cuddles
came into our lives on April 15th in 1999 she was 9 weeks old that day.
She has, in her 5 years with us, brought so much love and pleasure that
all others are measured by the "Cuddles Factor". She is my heart. The
aspect of losing her to her illnesses is almost too hard to bear
sometimes.
Cuddles is the product of a back yard breeding
program born in the city one of 10 puppies. By the age of 9 weeks there
were 3 pups left, her and 2 sisters. I had just put down our first APBT
for temperment issues and my husband
wanted another. I happened to buy a paper that day and was reading the
classifieds. Pit Bull puppies FREE no papers ready to go. For the heck
of it we pulled into a store and called from the pay phone. I put the
quarter in and called. It was 11 AM and I was the first call! The paper
comes out at 5 AM how could that be? I asked what they had. 3 females.
Colors? 2 fawn no white 1 brindle and white. Could I come by and see
the brindle please? Sure. OK at 2pm? Sure.
We ran our errands
(tax stuff ick) and headed to Manchester. Following the directions we
climbed 3 flights of stairs to the top floor. There wer e Beware of
Dog signs everywhere. We knocked on the door. Who is it? The Frenettes.
Who? We are here to look at the brindle puppy? Oh yeah she's on the bed
I'll get her. Mind you this was taking place through a closed door. I
just looked at Manette and shrugged.
Footsteps come back and no
less than 3 locks and a chain are undone. The guy opens the door and
thrusts a warm blinking pup at me and says here she is hope you'll
enjoy her and shuts the door! I was floored. Of course this perfect
bundle wasn't getting handed back in there. The guy's wife says maybe
they want to see the parents? YES I immediately said.
The door
opens and there are 2 fawn dogs staring back at us. They are reserved
and on the larger size. The wife was on the phone and says there ain't
no guarantees on the pup or papers she ain't had shots that's why she's
free. You want papers that's $250. Uhhhh no thanks I'm not going to
show her I'm spayng her anyway, can I see the papers though? To read
them? Sure thing.
Both parents were Colby bred dogs so that's
basically all I bothered with, I had no idea what that meant. We
brought the puppy home. We tried name after nae after name. She wasn't
having any of them she had picked her name and was sticking to it. On
the way home she crawled into my lap and cuddled. I'd put her back on
the seat and she'd try to get into Manette's lap. I'd pick her up and
she'd burrow into my arms. She sure is a cuddlebuns isn't she?
The
name stayed. At 8 months old she was a bit off in her movement so I
took her to the vet. She squealed during the physical exam so we left
her to have films taken. This is what we found.
She
was basically handicapped. The vet wanted to euthanise her as he said
the dogs were a dime a dozen we could just get another. Besides she'd
attack us from pain as her hips got worse. I refused his callous advice
and the rest is history.
Cuddles
is now 5 years old and her health is deteriorating at a rapid rate. How
empty our lives will be without this gentle old soul. For that's what
Cuddles has always been. Looking into her eyes you can see she's been
around a long, long time. Hopefully her next life will be pain free.
She deserves it.
My
businesses, both Cuddlebun's Creations and The Lilac Pit Bull Boutique
are based on Cuddles. She's my inspiration and my heart. She has never
given up once in her 5 years with us. She has taught us all so much and
touched so many lives we feel blessed to have had her. My only regret
is she will not have been here long enough when she leaves us.
Cuddles has her Own Guestbook
Cuddles has recently been diagnosed with Addison's Disease
Through
her battles and recovery from her Addison's problems I will document
what was done with her and for her. She was started on emergency
treatment on May 2, 2005.
